EVOLVE:

Develop gradually, especially from a simple to a more complex form.

This concept represents the birth of the dream. Every dream has a starting point a blank canvas on which one paints their hopes and aspirations. This blank canvas is turned into a beautiful dream by the organic nature of the dream growing. Dreams grow in a manner that is both organic but at the same time also systematic. This dichotomy of the organic and natural growth yet at the same time following natures patterns creates an interesting and unique pattern. To symbolize the birth I decided to actually use a living material the bacterium. Using bacteria’s such as Serratia Marcescens (Red), Chromo Violecium (Purple), and Sarcina (Yellow) I aim to grow colour onto the garment to create a representation of a dream being born. The concept also aims to capture the bursting explosion that is nature, through the growth culture. The garment represents the dreamer and the bacterium is a metaphor for the internal rapid and natural growth of the dream. The way in which the bacterium interacts with the dress is how the dream is formed and the bacterium painted dress represents the dream. This is the birth of the dream. The idea is to show the representation of a blank canvas being turned into a multi colored dreamscape. Since I am using something that is living it is hard to predict the outcome of the final growth look, thus depicting the unpredictability and volatility of dreams through the bacterium. The concept also aims at the dress being lmed while it is laid at and folded in a petri dish. The idea being that we are born lying down and we die lying down. The flat dress at the same time abstracts what the shape of the dress truly is creating this abstraction of the idea and nature of dreams. This laying the dress at also ts into the way in which the bacteria need to be grown. For the bacteria to be grown it needs to be in a closed environment and placed on a bed of agar to provide moisture. The whole system is a representation on how when a baby is born they are kept in incubators to help them stay away from harmful bacteria and adjust to the outside world at the same time the petri dish is a representation of a safe place where the dream can flourish and survive, evolving into something new and better. A fresh yet innocent dream built with hope and aspirations, Kept in incubation till it is ready and evolved enough to be shown to the world.
